Following investigations into claims of misconduct, extortion of money from Ghana Card applicants, and violations of the NCA’s Standard Operating Procedures and applicable public service rules while performing their duties as public servants in charge of registration activities, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has fired 10 staff members.

Following comprehensive investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, stationed at the NIA’s headquarters in Accra, management made the decision to fire the officials.

This included the interdiction of the involved officers, the creation of a Disciplinary Committee of Inquiry to conduct legal hearings for each impacted officer, and management’s acceptance of the recommendations made by the Disciplinary Committee.

In addition to soliciting and taking improper money from Ghana Card applicants, the terminated personnel were accused of manipulating the registration process for their own gain.

The Registrar General’s Department Office, Subin Sub-Metro District Office, Western Regional Office, and La-Nkwantanang Municipal Office were among the sites of these fraudulent acts.

Their acts undermined the basic heart of the NIA’s mission, which is to guarantee dependability and trust, in addition to violating the fundamental standards of integrity and transparency espoused by the NIA.

Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, the NIA’s executive secretary, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to sustaining the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and ethical conduct during a recent series of visits to the 16 regional offices across the country.

The officers’ dismissal sends a clear message that respect for the fundamental human rights of NIA employees will coexist with the prompt and exact application of the law in order to create a strong, moral, professional, and agile national institution dedicated to creating a nation that its citizens can truly be proud of.

The Executive Secretary promised to take more steps to stop similar wrongdoing in the future.
