Accra High Court has convicted 106 foreign nationals to imprisonment for unlawfully entering Ghana, underscoring the government’s rigorous application of immigration regulations.

The court sentenced 55 of the foreigners to 28 days in prison, while the other 51 received four-week imprisonment sentences each. Everyone admitted guilt to charges of unlawful entry.

After serving their sentences, the court mandated that the offenders be sent back to their original countries.

The incident traces back to 25 October 2025, when the defendant made their initial court appearance. On March 12, 2026, they officially admitted guilt to the accusations.

Police inquiries showed that on 7 October 2025, intelligence findings suggested that more than 100 foreign individuals were spotted near Kuntunse Satellite in Accra under dubious conditions. Arriving officers found the people living in a nearby home.

During interrogation, the suspects refused to provide their true identities. They were subsequently arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters for further investigation.

Additional investigations revealed that the foreigners were citizens of nearby French-speaking countries who had arrived in Ghana from January to October 2025. No one has gone to the closest Immigration Office, shown travel documents, or filled out the required legal forms.

Officials confirmed that all the convicted persons lacked valid permits to live or work in Ghana, leading the court to decide on prison terms followed by deportation.
