Twelve candidates have formally submitted their applications to run for the Ashanti Region’s Council of State, including Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC.
Mr. Frederick Adjei, Mrs. Rose Hamilton, Nana Yaw Akuoko, Nana Nkansah Ayeboafo, and Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh are among the ten male and two female candidates. Alexander Nti, Nana Kwasi Ampofo II, Nana Gyedu Kumanin IV, Adjei Bismark, Angel Yirenkyi, Nana Oforiwaa Adwoa, and lawyer Daniel Anarfi Yamoah are among the other candidates for the job.
In order to choose a representative to the Council of State, 86 voters—two Assembly Members each from the 43 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region—will cast ballots in the election, which is set for February 11, 2025.
The Electoral Commission’s (EC) Regional Director, Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah, advised all candidates to follow election regulations and run their campaigns with diligence, he underlined the significance of an impartial and open procedure.
One of the front-runners, former NDC Regional Chairman Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has denied rumors that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had endorsed a certain candidate. He urged the people to ignore the stories, calling them deceptive and untrue.
Mr. Obimpeh cited a number of regional development projects that were carried out while he served as NDC Regional Chairman, claiming that his lobbying efforts had a major influence on such endeavors.
He urged the delegates to support him, saying he would work to advance the Ashanti Region’s growth.
Adjei Bismark, Angel Yirenkyi, Nana Oforiwaa Adwoa, and lawyer Daniel Anarfi Yamoah were among the other candidates who also discussed their goals and motivations for running for the Council of State.
As candidates pledge to offer advocacy, representation, and development to the Ashanti Region if elected, the campaign is anticipated to be fiercely contested.
