On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic, paid a visit to Global Almas Processing Ltd., a factory that processes yam and cassava in Bimbilla, in the Northern Region.

The company has taken advantage of the readily available local raw materials in the Nanumba and surrounding areas to process yam and cassava flour for both domestic and foreign markets, according to Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South and Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

The Deputy Minister claims that Global Almas has a land bank of more than 2,000 acres at Bimbilla, and that more land will be acquired as operations expand in response to an anticipated rise in product demand.

Additionally, he mentioned that 10,000 yam must be purchased each day for the factory to produce 1,000 cartons of Yam Fufu Flour per day under the brand name Almas Yam Fufu Flour.

About 20 agricultural organizations have contracted with the company to supply the factory, and as a result, the company produces 200 bags of cassava flour per day on the cassava processing line.

According to Hon. Baafi, the factory’s total cost is estimated to be GH9.2 million, of which the Promoter will contribute 60%, or roughly GH5.2 million.

Additionally, a credit facility worth GH1 million (10.8% of the total project cost) was provided by the Ghana Exim Bank and disbursed in February 2021.

Including management, supervisors, food scientists, laboratory technicians, maintenance technicians, and women working as yam/cassava sorters and attendants for the peeling, cleaning, bagging, and stitching machines, Global Almas has so far generated more than 74 direct employment.

Additionally, approximately 400 more indirect jobs have been generated, including positions for sales outlets, transporters, harvesting teams, packaging & handling teams, and out-growers.

The business has already agreed to supply 1,000 tons of cassava chips per month to Sinostone Ethanol Manufacturing Company in Juapong.

A second contract was reached with the Wa-based Bofas Company Limited for the monthly delivery of a 40-foot container of yam fufu flour for export to the US market.
