During an operation to stop a robbery attempt on a mobile money vendor at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, a police officer was murdered after a gunfight.
During the gunfight with the robbers, the dead, identified as Sergeant Ahmed Kamal with service number 42250 and another police officer who has not been named by the Police Administration, both sustained bullet wounds.
After being transported to a hospital with his colleague, Kamal was identified as being deceased when he arrived.
Two suspected robbers who allegedly engaged the police in a gun duel during the operation to put a halt to a planned robbery attack on the mobile money vendor in Ejura, according to a statement released by the police on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, have been taken into custody.
Ibrahim Abubakari and Alhaji Wahab Suleiman have already been named as the suspects.
According to reports, the two robbery suspects who also suffered bullet wounds during the gunfire exchange with the police are receiving medical care under police protection.
Currently on the run is one of their accomplices who took part in the gunfire with the police officers sent on a mission to stop the planned robbery attack on the mobile money vendor.
The police claimed to have launched a manhunt for the conspirator in order to apprehend him and bring him to justice.
According to the statement, the suspects’ weapons at the site included two SB shotguns, a pump-action firearm, six live BB cartridges, and a used B8 cartridge.
The goods found would be used as evidence against the suspects in court.
