According to President Akufo Addo, he wants to leave office knowing that he did a good job of fighting for Ghana.

At a farewell service for Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi, the retiring chairperson of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, President Akufo Addo made this statement.

On January 7, 2017, President Akufo Addo took office, following through on ambitious promises to restructure the economy within 18 months and combat corruption that helped him and the ruling New Patriotic Party win the 2016 presidential election.

Many Ghanaians are unhappy in the weak performance of the economy and rise in corruption charges, despite the fact that he has kept several of his pledges, like as the implementation of Free Senior High School.

In January 2023, Ghana’s year-over-year inflation spiked to a record high of 54.1%, driven up by increases in food prices of 59.7% and transportation expenses of 71.4%.

The economy reached an unsustainable debt level, forcing the nation to accept a $3 billion IMF bailout.
As a condition of accepting the bailout, the government started an agonizing domestic debt exchange scheme.

Despite this, President Akufo Addo is optimistic about a quick revival of the economy.
He urged Ghanaians to hope that he and his chosen officials would continue to carry out their jobs with integrity and humility in order to turn around the nation’s fortunes.

“At the end of my tenure of office on 7th January 2025, I want with humility to be able to say just as St. Paul did in 2 Timoty 4:7-8 that “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing”.

“Pray for me and the people I have appointed to various positions with responsibilities that we will continue to exercise our responsibilities with humility and integrity. Pray for Ghana that It remains united in peace and continues to thrive for progress and prosperity. I continue to abide in faith in the Almighty God to help advance the fortunes of our nation accompanied by appropriate policies, determination, and hardwork on our part” President Akufo Addo was speaking to the congregation in Kyebi.

He urged Ghanaians to trust that, with his leadership, the country would overcome its current economic challenges.

I implore everyone present to share the same conviction that Ghana’s future is secure under H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. The Lord is in fact leading the fight.

Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi was praised by President Akufo Addo for his dedication in changing Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery.
