The approval of the 2024 budget will now take place on Monday, December 4, 2023, per Speaker of the Parliament Alban Bagbin’s directive.

On Thursday, November 30, the majority caucus left Parliament, prompting the decision.

On November 30, 2023, Parliament was scheduled to count votes in favor of approving the 2024 budget.

On Wednesday, November 29, at the end of the debate, Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin called for a voice vote on the budget’s approval, with the majority winning.

A walkout by the majority group was necessitated by the minority caucus’ challenge to the ruling and decision to conduct a headcount.

After that, the Speaker adjourned the meeting before returning later.

However, indications on the order paper of Parliament suggested that the headcount would be conducted today.

But in parliament on Thursday, the speaker said “The 2024 budget is still before us but it has been rescheduled for Monday.”

Meanwhile, the minority caucus accused the majority of running away from the house, saying “For the second time, they have run away…where are they?”
