In an appeal for a judicial review in the form of a Mandamus, six New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections are pleading with the High Court to order the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile and announce the results of the 2024 elections in their respective seats.

The candidates are Charles Forson (Tema Central), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Patrick Yaw Boamah (Okaikwei Central), Martin Kweku Adjei-Mensah Korsah (Techiman South), Nana Akua Owusu Afriye (Ablekuma North), and Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh (Ahafo Ano North), all of whom are seeking two crucial orders, are being represented by attorney Gary Nimako Marfo.

The first aims to require the EC to collate and announce the results of the elections that were held in their constituencies on December 7, 2024.

In order to prevent further disturbances to the EC’s constitutional tasks, the second requires the Inspector General of Police to guarantee sufficient security at collation centers.

The candidates contend that all polling places had valid elections and that the Returning Officers received the results. However, violent acts committed by unknown individuals at collation centers disrupted collation processes, causing pandemonium and interrupting operations.

Later attempts to resume collation at the Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, and the EC’s regional collation center failed.

On December 16, 2024, the candidates formally demanded that the results be collated and announced right away, citing frustration with the delays. The EC has not responded to the demand despite receiving it.

The applicants argue that the democratic process is undermined by the EC’s failure to fulfill its legislative tasks.

The irate NPP MPs maintain that in order to guarantee a prompt settlement of the issue and preserve election transparency, a court injunction is required.
