Baffour Owusu Bediako, the Omanhene of the Domeabra Traditional Council, has made overt references to the participation of traditional leaders in this year’s general elections.
The Paramount Chief unambiguously said that they have the right to examine programs and decide which will benefit the majority, despite the fact that they are constitutionally barred from engaging in party politics.
According to him, chiefs would steer the 2024 campaign by carefully examining the policies of all parties and providing insightful counsel to their constituents, rather than simply advancing political power.
The Omanhene gave a clear explanation for this assertion, stating that the outcome of the 2024 election will determine whether or not the nation advances.
The chief welcomed Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s running mate for the 2024 election, and Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the NPP’s Ashanti regional chairman, to his home. He explained that since political parties’ policies directly affect the people they lead, he will make sure that the policies that will benefit his people the most are supported.
He bemoaned the fact that, although lacking the legal support to establish political platforms, traditional authorities will not remain silent and allow their advancement to be derailed.
He reiterated policies like the Free Senior High School and 1D1F, among others, while praising the vast programs and initiatives of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s government and claiming that they had a good telling impact on the populace.
“This programme by the NPP government has helped put money in the pockets of even we the chiefs…I once visited the Domeabra SHS and looking at the numbers there, I asked myself: would I been able to afford fees of 1/10 of the population here? That was when I actually realised how important it is to support this policy” Baffour Owusu Bediako stated.
The chief also discussed the road projects within his purview and urged prompt completion of them.
Additionally, he urged the people to make sure that Andy Appiah Kubi, the member of parliament for the Asante Akyem North constituency, is kept in office.
He thanked Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Running Mate, for showing respect for the people living in the traditional area.
Following a few polite conversations, the Running Mate mounted the podium to provide his explanation for the visit.
He restated the party’s policies, which calls for an efficient collaboration between traditional leaders and the national government.
He said that Nananom continued to be the pioneers of development and that the NPP needed to have a better relationship with them.
His visit, according to NAPO, was intended to remind them of the reasons the NPP is still the finest political party in the nation while also asking Nananom for insightful counsel.
In an indication of unanimity of intent, the Running Mate praised the local MP, Andy Appiah Kubi. He pleaded for his continued employment in the constituency’s and the nation’s advancement.
