Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the leader of the Minority caucus in Parliament, believes that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo’s vice president, should share the blame for the “failure” of his administration.
He feels that President Akufo-Addo and his Vice have failed miserably and that Ghanaians ought to vote against them in the elections that are scheduled for December.
After the President gave the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Dr. Ato Forson seconded the motion in Parliament, pointing out that the President had neglected to address important concerns impacting the nation, such unemployment.
Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that the President must deliver the State of the Nation Address at the start and end of each Parliamentary Session, is followed by the SONA.
The President of the Republic delivers the SONA, an annual address to Parliament that covers the financial, social, and economic conditions of the nation.
Two out of every three Ghanaians, according to Dr. Ato Forson, are unemployed; he said that the President neglected to mention this issue in his SONA.
Only roughly 11 million of Ghana’s over 33 million people, he claimed, were employed, and the president urgently needed to address such high rates of unemployment.
Additionally, he said that supporting Vice President Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), would mean endorsing the “third term of President Akufo-Addo.”
Dr. Ato Forson is pleading with Ghanaians to support former president John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December presidential election because he thinks he has the magic wand to turn around the nation’s economic situation.
The Minority also thinks that when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, leave office, Ghanaians won’t notice their departure.
