The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Director of Elections and Information Technology, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has made it clear that the Electoral Commission’s announcement that certain constituencies would not be able to recall their parliamentary results.
Dr. Omane Boamah warned the EC against what he called an attempt to subvert the people’s will in a Facebook post published on Thursday, December 19.
The announcement of parliamentary results in nine constituencies raised concerns, which were addressed by Jean Mensa, the head of the Commission, at a press conference the EC arranged earlier Thursday.
Ms. Mensa claims that some of these statements were made without the required pink sheets from every polling station.
She also asserted that certain electoral officials had been intimidated or pressured into making the results public too soon. The results that were announced on favor of NDC candidates in Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North were deemed unlawful by her.
Dr. Omane Boamah responded to these allegations by accusing the EC of carrying out directives from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to weaken the NDC’s two-thirds majority in the forthcoming 9th Parliament.
He called the purported attempt undemocratic and issued a warning that any attempt to falsify the results would not be accepted by the NDC.
He made it clear in his post that the party would oppose any EC re-collation efforts.
“Useless press conference by Jean Mensa. She has obviously been instructed by NPP to dilute the 2/3 majority of NDC. But she will fail!”
“She must not tempt us beyond our endurance! We mean business!”
“At all constituencies where the declaration was not done, the Electoral Commission Ghana must have pinksheets that show that NDC won.”
“Instead of agreeing with our demand for an emergency IPAC meeting, she has decided to hide to avoid critical questions being asked at the IPAC meeting,” he posted.
