2,240 people registered in Ashanti region on Day 1 of the EC limited voter registration exercise

According to information provided by the Electoral Commission (EC), on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 the first day of the limited voter registration drive 2,240 applications were registered in the Ashanti Region.

Benjamin Bannor-Bio, the EC’s regional director, revealed this.

He revealed to the media, that while 46.7% of the registrants were female, 53.7% of them were male.

He claims that 1,040 candidates, or 46.4 percent, registered with Ghana cards. In the meantime, 19 applicants, or 0.9%, registered with passports.

A total of 1,181 candidates, or 52.7%, registered with guarantors as well.

The Regional Director said that 23 people who registered with guarantors had challenges.

There have been some network issues with the exercise, which started on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

However, Mr. Bannor claimed that any issues were amicably settled and described the exercise as being “very peaceful”.

Additionally, he warned against busing applicants to registration centers and emphasized that it is forbidden. He said the EC would not think twice about informing the proper parties about such individuals.
