The conviction of Paul Avortide, also known as “Tinted,” a 25-year-old armed robber, has been successfully obtained by the Volta Regional Police Command.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Paul Avortide was found guilty after a quick inquiry into a violent robbery.
On May 21, 2025, at approximately 4:00 AM, he attacked Ogechi Chidiebere, a pregnant Nigerian woman living in Ho, close to New Housing, Ho, leading to his arrest.
Chidiebere was on her way to a prenatal care visit at the Ho Municipal Hospital when Avortide threatened her with a machete.
He then stole GH¢5,500.00 worth of items from the pregnant mother, including GH¢3,000.00 and a Tecno Spark 30c cell phone worth GH¢2,500.00.
Through an intelligence-led operation, the police detained 23-year-old Harmony Nbonu, also known as “Arab Money,” at the Ho Main Market on suspicion of possessing a stolen phone.
Nbonu identified Paul Avortide as the person who sold him the phone for GH¢850.00 during investigation.
Paul Avortide had been hiding in Matse, a neighborhood of Ho, when the police led Nbonu to apprehend him.
In violation of Section 149 of the Criminal Offenses ACT, 1960 (ACT 29), he was later accused of robbery.
The person who bought the phone was found not guilty and released, but Paul Avortide entered a guilty plea and was sentenced on his own to 19 years in prison with hard labor.
