On Monday, August 19, 2024, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) began conducting theoretical and practical exams for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates in 2024.

This is in accordance with how the Visual Art Project was managed between August 5, 2024, and August 16, 2024. The last day of the examination is Friday, September 20, 2024.

Candidates from 1,003 schools, totaling 460,611—212,954 men and 247,657 women—have enrolled for the exam. This is a 2.66% increase over the 448,674 entry figure from 2023. There are a thousand centers nationwide where the exam is being administered.

On the other hand, WAEC has voiced alarm about allegations of extensive cheating schemes by certain educational institutions. Information obtained suggests that:

– Candidates in some areas are being charged between Gh¢200.00 and Gh¢500.00 to receive assistance from invigilators.
– Supervisors at some centers plan to assign teachers to invigilate subjects they teach.
– Some schools have registered individuals who are not their legitimate students.

WAEC issues a warning to all supervisors, invigilators, and heads of schools to abstain from such actions. Those found guilty will be held accountable in accordance with the examination’s guidelines. If the Council finds such candidates, it may revoke their whole set of results and invalidate their entries. Exam centers that don’t follow the guidelines will also be moved to centers authorized by WAEC.

In order to safeguard the integrity of the test, WAEC asks for assistance from all parties involved, especially supervisors and invigilators.

It is recommended that candidates follow the guidelines and use caution while using dubious websites that spread fictitious questions and entice applicants to subscribe to them, diverting their attention from their studies.

“The Council wishes all candidates success in their papers and reminds them that they can pass their examination without cheating,” the statement added.
