On Tuesday, December 27, an accident on the Akatsi-Sogakope section of the Aflao-Accra route claimed the lives of five people.
A Nissan Urvan Minibus with the license plate GG 2596-22 carrying 15 people was involved in the accident, which happened at around 1320 hours as it was traveling from Accra to Akatsi.
Police sources in Akatsi said that the accident happened on a part of the Accra-Aflao route at Torve, close to Akatsi.
According to eyewitnesses, Dagba Stephen, the driver, lost control of the car, which drifted into a gutter before flipping over and coming to rest on its tires.
According to police sources, the wounded occupants of the car were sent to the Akatsi Municipal Hospital for treatment, but two adults, Ama Dagba and Vida Dagba, who were 45 and 35 years old, respectively, were pronounced dead when they arrived.
The Akatsi Police further disclosed that three more patients who died while receiving care at the same hospital were Felix Dagba, 27, Douglas Ahiagble, 31, and another man dead, said to be in his 60s.
However, the hospital is now treating the remaining accident victims.
The deceased’s remains have been placed at the St. Paul’s Hospital Morgue in anticipation of an autopsy.
The media also learned that the victims were on a family trip to celebrate the new year from Nsawam to Gefia, a village close to Akatsi.
