Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, a flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has presented an ambitious and detailed vision for Ghana’s future. Addressing a crowd of party supporters and the country at Silicon House in Accra on Tuesday, January 20, Agyepong presented his “New Dawn Agenda,” which includes six fundamental pillars designed to revolutionize the nation in every sector.
- Land Reforms, Youth Empowerment, and Modernised Agriculture
His plan begins with land reform, focusing on streamlining the often complex and bureaucratic land registration processes. He aims to modernize the agricultural sector, making it climate-smart and a more attractive career choice for Ghana’s youth. This pillar envisions a future where farming is not only profitable but also seen as a dignified profession that empowers the younger generation to drive economic growth.
- Urban Regeneration, Rural Renewal, and Environmental Protection
His vision for urban and rural development focuses on structured growth. He pledges to transform chaotic urban sprawls into organised, modern settlements, while revitalising rural communities with essential infrastructure and amenities. His commitment to environmental protection will ensure that growth is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
- Fiscal Discipline and Value for Money
With a focus on economic stability and fiscal responsibility, Agyepong vows to prioritise the completion of existing government projects before embarking on new ones. By curbing wasteful spending and institutionalising a culture of maintenance across government projects, he seeks to ensure that taxpayer money is used efficiently to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
- Restoring Meritocracy and Professionalism in Public Service
He believes in a public service rooted in merit and professionalism. He promises to eliminate political interference in promotions and appointments, ensuring that those who perform well are rewarded. His plan includes streamlining the number of cabinet ministers and Supreme Court judges, while abolishing the mandatory retirement age of 70 for judges, giving them the opportunity to serve as long as they are physically able.
- National Trade Licence Regime
One of Agyepong’s standout proposals is to bring the informal sector into the formal economy. Through a comprehensive national trade license regime, he seeks to offer incentives, rather than punitive taxes, to informal businesses. This will empower Ghanaian entrepreneurs and create a more robust and inclusive economy.
- Empowering Creative Arts and Reigniting Sports
He also places a strong emphasis on the development of Ghana’s creative industries and sports. He pledges to enforce strict copyright laws to protect the intellectual property of creative professionals, while focusing on revitalising sports with a particular focus on soccer, athletics, and boxing. His aim is to restore the pride and excitement Ghanaians once felt for both the arts and sports, paving the way for their global recognition.
