A seven-member jury has been selected by the Kumasi High Court 2 to hear the case of a police officer accused of killing his fiancée in Kumasi-Adum, in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, the defendant, went before the court and disqualified three of the 10 potential jurors who had been initially suggested. Inspector Twumasi is a member of the Ashanti regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) section of the Ghana Police Service.
In view of Inspector Twumasi’s plea of not guilty to the murder charge brought against him, the court remanded him to appear in court again on August 28, 2023, for further proceedings. Inspector Twumasi is 26 years old.
In order to facilitate the case management conference, the court has requested that the State Attorney provide a witness statement before the following adjourned date.
The grieving family members of the victim, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, affectionately known as Maadwoa, were present in huge numbers, dressed in red and black, to observe the proceedings amidst tight security at the courthouse.
The unfortunate event, which has received a lot of media attention, has shocked and saddened the neighborhood.
All eyes will be on the court as the trial gets underway to ensure that justice is done in this high-profile case involving a police officer.
