An explosion at a quarry site in Anto Aboso, in the Shama District of the Western Region, resulted in the deaths of at least three Ghanaians and five Chinese nationals.

According to reports, the fatal explosion happened on Saturday, September 9, at about 10:00 p.m.

The disaster’s genesis is still unknown.

However, officers from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana Police Service, and Ghana National Fire Service are on the scene assisting with rescue attempts while investigations get underway.

The site is littered with dismembered bodies that may belong to the Chinese nationals.

STA-ADDSAMS Enterprise, formerly known as Omni Quarry, is the owner of the property.

The extent of the devastation is being likened to the Appiatse gas explosion that took place in 2022.

The firm whose quarry site experienced an explosion on Saturday night, according to Western Region Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, was working illegally.

He stated that as a result, the business’s owners will be held accountable for the terrible consequences of their actions, which led to the explosion in Anto Aboso in the Shama District of the Western Region.

On Sunday, September 10, Mr. Okyere Darko Mensah, who is also the Takoradi MP, made this known by visiting the tragedy scene.

At least eight people were killed in the blast, including three Ghanaians and some Chinese nationals.

Others who had been hurt were taken to hospitals in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis for treatment.
