To inform customers about products and services, mobile money (MoMo) fraud, and updates on network upgrade projects in the country, MTN Ghana hosted community forums in Sefwi Dwenase in the Western North region and Asante Mampong in the Ashanti region.
Police officers, prison officers, municipal chief executives, chiefs, opinion leaders, and a variety of artisans, including dressmakers, tailors, hairdressers, and beauticians, as well as traders, MoMo retailers, and merchants, attended the forums.
The forums’ participants received instruction on how to spot and stop fraud. Additionally, they were instructed to follow the “MTN golden rules” to prevent fraud. The golden rules advise users to refrain from discussing their wallets with strangers and to keep their pin codes private.
Speaking at the event, the Corporate Communication Senior Manager, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu said, “MTN Mobile Money system is ISO certified and secured. Many of the fraudsters employ social engineering tricks in their efforts to defraud their victims. This is why they call you to engage you.”
She said, “MTN will continue to educate and create awareness amongst mobile money users to reduce their exposure to the activities of fraudsters”. She urged customers to report fraud incidents through the various official channels available including the *170#.
Additionally, users received information on the causes of network difficulties in their neighborhoods, MTN’s investments and activities to address the problems, and the initiatives being taken to improve network performance. MTN was able to communicate with clients and get their comments during the session.
On behalf of the Paramount Chief, Nana Elluo Panyin III, Kyidomhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, thanked MTN for hosting the forum at Sefwi Dwenase. He advocated for more similar encounters and claimed that the occasion had given him the chance to comprehend important concerns pertaining to MTN services.
The Chief Director of the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Chief Executive both requested MTN to keep working to enhance the network services in the local areas.
All of the communities’ customers indicated pleasure with the community forum.
Similar forums were organized earlier this year in Assin Fosu, Inchaban, and Aflao, when MTN engaged over 1000 community members.
