The Accra Circuit Court remanded five people in custody in connection with the Cecilia Dapaah case, but granted bail to two breastfeeding moms in the amount of GH$1 million each.

The court ruled that each bail must include three sureties, subject to reason.

In addition to the four individuals who were initially charged with counts of stealing and dishonestly receiving money taken from the residence of former sanitation minister Cecilia Dapaah, three additional individuals have been arraigned; one additional individual who is reportedly of interest to the investigations is said to be on the run.

As a result, there are now eight defendants in active court proceedings.

The father of the first accused, Patience Botwe, who was first suspected of collecting money dishonestly, Kwaku Botwe, was, however, exonerated by the court.

These were disclosed to the court when police prosecutors replaced the charge sheet on the Attorney General’s recommendation.

The case has been adjourned to August 22.

Two housekeepers connected to the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, together with her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are currently being tried in front of the Accra Circuit Court.

The Chronicle newspaper, which broke the story first, reported that the allegations center on the suspected theft of large quantities of money ($1 million, €300,000, and several millions of Ghanaian cedis), as well as priceless objects.

The couple’s home in Abelemkpe, Accra, was where the stolen money and possessions were removed.

The thefts are alleged to have taken place between the months of July and October 2022 and were carried out by the accused, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30.

Indicted in the case are Ms. Botwe’s father, present and previous partners, and her.

When word of the grand theft spread, Cecilia Dapaah resigned.
