Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Joseph Gyamfi Owusu popularly known as (Odenkyem), has submitted his nomination forms at the office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to compete in the parliamentary primaries.
Speaking to the party supporters after submitting the forms, the former DCE said his defeat in the 2020 elections is a thing of the past.
According to him, the next elections in 2024 will undoubtedly go in favor of the governing party in the constituency.
He charged everybody in the party to forget the mistakes that occurred in the last elections that might have resulted in the lost.
In the 2020 elections, Mr Owusu lost to the incumbent MP, Alex Adomako Mensah of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In the 2020 general elections, Hon. Joseph Owusu Gyamfi, Odenkyem ran as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate but lost to the NDC by just 156 votes. Later, he got sick and was unable to participate in active politics for more than two years.
A lot of elderly people, schoolchildren, young people, market women, drivers, Muslim brothers and sisters, some men of God, and some shop owners along the streets of Drobonso expressed their happiness to see Odenkyem returning to the constituency, which they believe will help the party regain its strength.
When talking to newsmen, party members expressed their belief that the NPP will fall apart without Odenkyem.
The former DCE and NPP candidate for the 2020 parliamentary election, Hon. Joseph Owusu Gyamfi, Odenkyem, and his wife, were welcomed with excitement and joy on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, as they filed their nominations to prevent the NPP from having an orphan constituency.
