Former NPP Northern Regional Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu claims that the three police council members he spoke with disagreed with the accusations leveled against the IGP by certain senior officers who approached him.

Mr. Bugri Naabu has said that he sent President Akufo-Addo the recording he possessed.

In response to inquiries from the seven-member committee of Parliament examining the stolen tape, Mr. Bugri Naabu said he sent President Akufo-Addo a copy of the recording so he could hear it for himself.

“Commander Asare and COP Mensah claimed that all of the Police Headquarters’ Commissioners are currently NDC members, and that we will see whether we win this election or lose it. So just from that, I was a little concerned,” he explained.

When questioned if the discussions about the IGP’s ties with the army made him feel nervous, Mr. Naabu responded, “That was the reason I did the recording and sent the President the tape. In order for him to hear it directly from him and not only from me, as I did, he continued.

“I called some members of the police council, about three of them, about what they have said about the IGP, and they all said it is not true so I decided to let the President know about.

“I was also surprised someone who was going on retirement wanted to be IGP. So I told him that he leadership is by God so he should go and see the chief Imam or Asantehene so they can pray for him,”

Bugri Naabu told a parliamentary committee probing the leaked the tape in which some police officers were heard plotting the removal of the IGP.

A purported secret audio recording detailing an alleged plot to have the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, removed from office prior to the 2024 elections surfaced in July.

The purported recording was made by individuals who were thought to be senior members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a Senior Police Officer.

The unnamed participants in the chat who were being recorded at the time voiced anger about the IGP’s actions since they did not serve the interests of the ruling party.

They took issue with his management style and purported ties to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition party.
