All of the police officers implicated in the IGP audio leak that is currently the subject of an investigation by a special committee of parliament have been interdicted by the Ghana Police Service.
The three have been interdicted due to their involvement in the tape, according to a statement dated Thursday, September 7, 2023, and signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service.
Former Director-General of Operations for the service, COP George Alex Mensah, is one of the three men.
“The Police Service has interdicted Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Mr. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, and Superintendent Mr. George Lysander Asare, in connection with the audio tape which has become a subject matter of investigation by Parliament,” the statement said.
Additionally, it described what would come after these interdictions.
The statement concluded, “The interdiction is to make way for disciplinary investigations into their actions in accordance with Police Service laws.
COP When the three police officers spoke separately before the special parliamentary committee looking into the case of the audio tape that was leaked in an effort to remove the Inspector General of Police, George Alex Mensah was the most outspoken of the three.
COP Mensah, who had previously stated that he has been advocating to become IGP since 2017, claimed in one of his remarks before the committee that the current head of the force, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is the worst he has come across in his 31 years in the police service.
