Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), predicts victory in the election, which is set for November 4, 2023.

In support of the assertion, Dr. Akoto pointed out that, given the vision he has so far expressed, he is the only candidate who has made it clear how he intends to diversify Ghana’s agricultural sector through policies and programs in order to revive the country’s economy and free Ghanaians from the ongoing hardships they face.

Dr. Akoto, who was third (3rd) on the ballot in the NPP presidential primary scheduled for November 4, spoke with a cross-section of the Ghanaian media at his campaign office on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He said he is Ghana’s hope for the future and urged the delegates to disregard the intimidation and undue influences that the other contenders are using and join him in in large numbers.

“I am more energized than ever before to bear the flag of the NPP and go on to win power for the party. If you look at all the candidates contesting the NPP flagbearer position, who has a better message than mine? My vision for the NPP and that for Ghana inspires hope, and that is why hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians are urging me on to go all out and fight until I win power for them. I can’t disappoint them”Dr Akoto stated.

“I am Ghana’s hope. I have already laid out the broader picture of my vision. As the campaign progresses, a lot of Ghanaians have assured me of their support, and I ain’t backing down” he added.

He claimed that all he needs from the NPP’s leadership is a level playing field so that all of the candidates may demonstrate their strengths to Ghanaians so they can make educated choices.

“We had five candidates before the election on November 4, but one of them withdrew. There is a perception that the party apparatus is slanting the results in favor of one candidate. To allow delegates of our beloved NPP to choose the party’s leader for the election in 2024, the leadership of the party must foster a free environment free from any intimidation. With that, it will be simpler for us to unite, support the primary winner, and close ranks.

Dr. Akoto, a former two-term Member of Parliament (MP), shocked many political analysts and pollsters by finishing fourth at the NPP Special Delegates Conference on August 26, 2023.

He is anticipated to step up his campaign in the coming weeks as he rethinks his strategy in preparation for the NPP “showdown” on November 4.

The widely reported elections are expected to see the participation of more than 200,000 party delegates.

According to sources close to his campaign team, Dr. Akoto, who has over 18 years of experience working in UN systems, has targeted more than half of the votes of the delegates who will choose the NPP’s leader moving into the general elections in 2024.
