The present Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is the best Ghana has had in a long time, according to Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, the Ahafo regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Since the IGP took office, he claims, operations and public confidence in the Police have increased.

Stop stabbing the backs of the industrious people. Every Ghanaian can see what this man is doing, plain and simple. Even if you don’t like him, you can see that his leadership has improved the police department greatly. We find it difficult to embrace those who can transform since we are so accustomed to doing wrong. Being attacked by a journalist like Paul Adom Otchere, whose work is so obvious to everyone, is sad and unfair.

“All previous IGPs served their time and left, but if you observe the changes, the visibility, the public’s trust in the service, and everything else, you can tell that he is the best IGP Ghana has had in many years, and we must safeguard and defend individuals like that. In my area, you can see police officers on motorcycles everywhere you go, yet we are letting a few envious people ruin such a person. On Friday, September 15, 2023, he said on Kumasi-based Angel FM, “That is not right, and we must speak up.

The IGP testified before the parliamentary ad hoc committee on Tuesday in regards to the audio that was leaked showing certain police officers discussing his dismissal. Before the committee, his accusers had already made an appearance.

The initial audio provided to the committee appears to have been altered, according to the ad hoc committee looking into the Bugri Naabu tape that was released and features a discussion about the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The second recording, according to Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea, is far lengthier than the first, which was played during the committee’s first meeting.

It said that further information seemed to be on the second tape as well.

This was said by Mr. Atta Akyea in an interview to the media following a closed-door session today.

The infamous tape that was leaked has sparked a lot of discussion. In a prior appearance before the committee, Bugri Naabu attested to the veracity of the tape.

Bugri Naabu, COP Alex Mensah, and Supt. George Asare are heard speaking on the recording along with Bugri Naabu.

They talk about strategies for getting rid of the IGP, with the purported goal of replacing him with an IGP who will support the NPP and help it win the 2024 elections.

Dr. Akuffo Dampare passionately refuted the accusations brought against him by the implicated police officers during his appearance before the committee on Tuesday.

He emphasized how his family had experienced great hardship as a result of these unsupported charges.

Furthermore, Dampare denied any participation in a plot to covertly record discussions between the three police officers.

The MP Samuel Atta Akyea’s suspicions add a new level of complexity to the ongoing investigation into the audio that was released, emphasizing the need for a careful analysis of the facts before any judgments are made.
