Alan Kyerematen, a former candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, has criticized the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (also known as Chairman Wontumi), for ‘attacking’ him after he left the party.

In an interview with UTV on Tuesday, September 27, 2023, an obviously incensed Alan Kyerematen questioned Wontumi’s temerity in speaking out against him.

Alan, who has said he will run as an independent in the 2024 presidential elections, claimed credit for transforming Wontumi into the NPP leader he is today.

“Who brought Wontumi to the party? Today, Wontumi is going round making all kinds of noise. If he has someone to thank, it should be Alan Kyerematen. I’m the one who held his hands to the party. Who is Wontumi?

We shouldn’t be expressing certain things, but we have remained silent for too long. I took Wontumi to the NPP, and I had a legitimate motive for doing so. He operated a little business. He said in Twi, “Today, Wontumi is the one dictating when we are talking about party matters.

The candidate for president claimed that Wontumi begged for his assistance and promised to support his bid for the presidency, which led to Wontumi becoming the NPP constituency chairman for Bosumtwi.

“I made him a chairman while holding his hand… He was continually following me after he was elected chairman; he was more than just the lead campaigner. I mention this to commend him for having the discernment to recognize that Alan was the best person to lead him into politics.

But for the sake of the future, he needs to be cautious about the things he has been doing. Don’t take someone for granted if they help you succeed, he advised.

He said that he was the one who requested that Wontumi be appointed as the regional chairman by speaking to the NPP constituency chairperson in the Ashanti Region.

After Wontumi criticized Alan for leaving the NPP to run as an independent in the 2024 presidential elections, the former responded by criticizing Alan.

In an interview on his TV station, Wontumi TV, on Monday, Wontumi claimed that Alan was unappreciative for the choice he made and that by leaving the NPP, Alan had only brought curses upon himself.

The moment President Kufour appointed you as an ambassador, you were overjoyed. It was so much fun for you (Alan), your girlfriends, your wife, and your kids. They attended reputable schools because of you. You were appointed commerce minister by President Kufuor as well, and as a result of your financial success, Alan Cash was given to you.
