As of today, Monday, October 2, 2023, the limited voter registration exercise will come to an end.
Some political parties were seeking for an extension of the election during a visit to the district offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ashanti Region.
Ghanatodayonline reporters, visited some of the EC’s district offices, there were a lot of people waiting to register.
Old Tafo, Bantama, Nhyiaeso, Manhyia North, and Manhyia South constituencies are just a few of the locations that were visited.
The representatives of the major political parties said that they anticipated the number of registrations to decline given that today is the final day, but instead the number has increased.
Thus, in order to include every eligible applicant, constituency executives of the main political parties requested an extension of the process.
They waited till the last day to rush to register, which is pretty typical of Ghanaians, according to the NDC constituency secretary for Old Tafo.
He encouraged the EC to extend the exercise as a result.
He said, “We would politely ask the Electoral Commission for a day or two delay so that the potential voters can also have their time to register.
The deputy NPP youth organizer for Manhyia North also said: “As you can see, today, being the last day, there are lots of people flowing in from various constituencies.”
“Definitely, they need to extend it by one or two days.”
Without a doubt, an extension is necessary so they can accommodate everyone. Limited registration should be available at the electoral area the following year if there is no extension, a party agent contended.
