Following the passing of Theresa Kufuor, the former first lady and wife of the late president, John Agyekum Kufuor, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former minister for agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, canceled his planned campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.

Prior to the NPP election on November 4, the former agriculture minister indicated that a new date will be announced for the start of his campaign trip of the Ashanti Region.

In an address declaration made at a news conference in Kumasi, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto urged party members to choose him as their flagbearer so he could lead the group to victory in the general elections of 2024.

The former Food and Agriculture Minister was scheduled to begin his week-long tour to the Ashanti Region this week by holding strategic meetings with key party members at different locations in the region.

This was done to step up attempts to mobilize backing for his presidential campaign.

On November 4, 2023, NPP voters will choose a president to guide the party into the general elections of 2024.

The third candidate on the ballot is Dr. Akoto. At the August 26, 2023, Super Delegates Conference, he finished in fourth place.

The homecoming gathering gave the delegates the chance to challenge Dr. Akoto about the party’s future, particularly at a time when political observers have questioned the party’s cohesiveness.

On October 5 and 6, 2023, Dr. Akoto was scheduled to give radio interviews as part of his Ashanti Regional tour.

The former Minister, who is listed as candidate number three (3), will then travel to the Northern Region and conduct a similar campaign there.

On November 4, 2024, the National Delegates Conference is anticipated to be attended by about 200,000 delegates.
