Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central and potential flagbearer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that he did not accuse party members of “looting the country as if there is no tomorrow,” as shown in a popular video.

The footage, he claimed, had been altered and put out of context in order to mislead him and the Akufo-Addo administration.

The video was obtained from a private meeting Mr. Agyapong had with some NPP communicators over the weekend in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, during which he was discussing the difficulties the party was facing, according to a statement released on October 4, 2023.

He emphasized that his comments had been misrepresented in order to paint him and the administration in a bad light.

At the event, he bemoaned the fact that NPP communicators were failing the party. He noted that every government would experience a few instances of corruption, especially in the first eight years, but regrettably, because of a few bad cases that the authorities were handling transparently as they should have, they had allowed the ruthless opposition propaganda apparatus, the mainstream media, and social media to spread the false narrative that the NPP was looting as they should have.

He emphasized that his goal was to voice his displeasure with the way his party was unfairly depicted in the media, particularly on social media, in comparison to the opposition, and to draw attention to President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to fighting corruption through actions and institutional reforms.
