The freezing order against five (5) of the former sanitation minister Ms. Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts has been lifted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to a statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Ms. Dapaah’s other bank accounts and financial assets are also subject to the freezing order, which is still in effect.

In July 2023, the Special Prosecutor opened an inquiry into Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah over allegations of suspected corruption and crimes related to it involving huge sums of money and other valuables.
To aid in the investigation, the Special Prosecutor took steps, such as issuing a freezing order regarding Ms. Dapaah’s bank accounts and other financial assets.

Five (5) of Ms. Dapaah’s bank accounts were later cleared of any allegation of being contaminated property by the investigation.

When the Chronicle Newspaper reported that Madam Dapaah’s domestic helpers had been taken to court for allegedly stealing $1 million, $300,000 euros, several millions of cedis, and personal effects of the former minister and her husband valued at thousands of Ghana Cedis and dollars in July 2023, the former sanitation minister became the talk of the town.

Following a widespread outcry, Cecilia Dapaah resigned from her post. The OSP detained her, and she was eventually released on bond.

On July 24, 2023, representatives from the Office of the Special Prosecutor searched the former minister of sanitation’s home.

The OSP reported finding US$590,000 and GHC2.730,000 in cash inside the former minister’s flat.
These significant cash quantities were immediately seized by officials from the Office of the Special Prosecutor as vital evidence to support the continuing investigation.

Seven of Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts were also frozen by the OSP.
