Anthony Akoto Ampaw, one of Ghana’s best private attorneys, has passed away.
The circumstances surrounding his death, however, are still mostly unknown.
The outstanding legal knowledge of Akoto Ampaw was well known. As the principal attorney defending President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo throughout the tumultuous court battle over the 2020 election petition, he was essential.
His participation in the New Patriotic Party’s legal team during the Electoral Petition of 2013 further highlighted his impressive legal career.
Beyond his broad legal knowledge, Mr. Ampaw was a respected partner at the prestigious law firm affiliated with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co.
It has been revealed that he passed away on Friday [October 20, 2023] at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
Human rights and anti-corruption crusader Mr. Akoto Ampaw was a well-known private attorney.
Akoto Ampaw earned an LL.B. from the University of Ghana’s School of Law in 1973 and a B.L. from the Ghana School of Law in 1993.
He has areas of expertise in media law, labor law, investment law, commercial law, business law, industrial law, litigation, constitutional law, and human rights law.
Akoto Ampaw, a human rights activist, recently teamed up with other people and groups from the civil society to protest the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Parliament.
He was against the bill that was the subject of a Private Member’s motion.
