The executives and members of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) have commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for what they have called exceptional sports infrastructure throughout the nation.

As to their statement, “you will notice the amount of infrastructure developments that have occurred, with these youth centers all over the country, it is a common sight now.” It is only fitting that we come to express our gratitude now that we may play football in comfort.

As has happened in several other noteworthy footballing nations, GHALCA claims that the availability of these initiatives will herald the revival and offer opportunities for the development of athletic potential throughout the country.

This was revealed when group executives and members, including heads and representatives of a few football league clubs, paid the President a courtesy call on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Jubilee House in Accra. The purpose of the visit was to give the President an album of the season’s activities and to talk about issues that are commonly related to football in Ghana.

In his interactions with President Akufo-Addo, GHALCA President Kudjoe Fianoo praised the government’s outstanding support for clubs and sports facilities.

He said, “we are here to thank you for what you’ve done, not only for GHALCA but football in general. Since you assumed office, you’ve done a lot for Ghana Football, notably, assistance to our members who qualify for international competitions.

“Yesterday was an example of your support for one of our members. Ampem Darkoa Ladies were here yesterday to bid you farewell to participate in a major competition. As usual, you made sure that you provided the needed support for them to excel in their assignment. A couple of weeks ago, when Medeama, our proud champions for this year, visited you, you once again supported them. So it is fair and proper for us to come and say thank you.”

Recalling the cessation of all football activities during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, he said, “taking our minds back a few years in the heat of COVID, you did not leave out football. In your famous Fellow Ghanaians Series, you always found space to do your bit for football. Even to the extent of doling out a lot of money to cushion us during those very difficult periods and we appreciate that so much.”

In addition, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo commended President Akufo-Addo for his efforts regarding the President’s Cup matches, stating that “since 2002, you are the only President to have participated on two successive occasions and if we have you again next year, you will score a hattrick, as we say in football.” The competition’s structure and organization were put up for review.

On his part, President Akufo-Addo underlined that one of the most important aspects of developing talent and creating successful national teams is the government’s commitment to creating a competitive and professional club football environment in the nation.
