Ghana’s Best Minister for Infrastructure Development for 2023 is Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency.
At the Chamber of Construction 2023 Awards for Industrial Players, which were held in Accra yesterday, October 25, 2023, the Minister was presented with this accolade.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye, who spoke at the ceremony, reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to giving infrastructure development in the nation top priority.
He claims that the government is attempting to create an atmosphere that is favorable to investment from the private sector.
Mr. Asenso-Boakye pointed out that the private sector contributes not just financial resources but also the creativity, know-how, and efficiency necessary for a project to be implemented successfully.
Even so, the Minister of Works and Housing acknowledged that “PPPs remain an evolving concept in Sub-Saharan Africa, largely due to persistent obstacles hindering their successful execution,” even if they are a frequently used financing instrument.
According to what he revealed, the Ghanaian government passed the Public Private Partnership Act (Act 1039) in 2020 in an effort to improve the government’s framework, streamline regulations, and lessen bureaucracy. This was done in an effort to boost private sector confidence and draw in the funding required for infrastructure projects.
Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye said he was aware of the challenges encountered by the contractors, and gave the assurance he was committed to addresing them.
”As the Minister responsible for the construction sector, I want to express my awareness of the difficulties contractors are encountering, particularly, concerning delayed payments. I want to assure you that I am committed to addressing these payment issues to the best of my abilities”, Hon. Asenso-Boakye stated.
He was grateful that the Chamber of Construction had acknowledged his work and named him Ghana’s Best Minister for Infrastructure Development for 2023.
He emphasized that the award would be a supplement to the many things that drive him as the Minister of Works and Housing to give the nation his all.
