Chief urges Akufo-Addo to establish Cocoa Processing Factory in Sefwi Wiaso

As part of the One-District, One-Factory program, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama ll, Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, has made a sincere plea to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to create a Cocoa Processing factory in the Western North Regional Capital, Sefwi Wiawso.

This request was made by Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama ll during his speech at the MTN Elluo 2023.

Speaking to the enormous assembly that marked the culmination of the month-long Eluo Festival, the ruler of the Sefwi Wiawso traditional Area and a member of the Council of State expressed his opinion that the people of the Western North Region, regardless of their political background or affiliation, would always be grateful to H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for creating the region.

Speaking under the Theme for the Eluo Festival Celebration, “Ensuring Pro-Active Socio-Economic Development in Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, The Role of Traditional Leaders.”

Member of the Western North Regional House of Chiefs and Council of State, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, praised President Akufo-Addo for establishing the Western North Region in his speech, noting that the region’s many developments bear witness to the benefits the people have reaped from the region’s creation.

He emphasized that the creation of the new region had sparked a number of large-scale projects, some of which were completed and others of which were still being built.

The Forestry Commission board member Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II underlined the request’s historical relevance and said it has long been needed for the region to have a facility that processes cocoa.

The ruler of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area also emphasized that prominent figures in the nation, such as Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, had supported the concept of establishing a cocoa processing plant in the western North Regional Capital.

“I am optimistic that the President’s efforts, even as his term in office draws to a close next year, could set the stage for future administrations to continue the pursuit of this vision,” he said.

The potential advantages of such an enterprise were emphasized by Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, who pointed out that it would not only help dissuade juvenile involvement in illicit activities but also generate work prospects.

“We, the Chiefs and people of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, are still looking forward to this dream becoming a reality,” Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II stated.

In reference to the Sefwi Benchemaa-Adjoafua road, which has been on hold for a few months now because of financial constraints, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama ll urged President Akufo-Addo to finish the little remaining section before his tenure comes to a close.

We are grateful to your administration for the many developments in this region; Okatakyie informed President Akufo Addo that Benchema-Adjoafua Road had undergone multiple sod cutting operations under previous administrations but had not seen any light until you took office in 2017.

On his part, H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, promised to bring additional infrastructure breakthroughs before the end of his term in office.

He also mentioned how happy he was that Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama ll had praised his government for its extraordinary accomplishments in the nation and the region, and he mentioned that the town roads in Sefwi Wiawso will be finished by the end of this year.

In his commendation of Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama’s efforts to transform the Western North Regional Capital by restoring Okogyeabour’s palace to its contemporary condition, President Akufo-Addo said that his administration will persist in its efforts to promote development throughout the nation, irrespective of regional differences.
