Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was given a “showdown” by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential contenders, who praised the elections committee of the party for setting up a free and fair presidential primary.
As a result, he has acknowledged his loss and thanked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who won the competition. He has also promised to support the general elections that would take place in 2024.
“This is the only thing I’ve been preaching, and I must admit this election is fair and my grassroots have spoken; therefore, I accept the results in good faith,” Mr Agyapong said moments after the results was announced.
In an effort to “break the eight” and defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he promised to assist the flagbearer-elect.
“Therefore, party members, let’s put everything behind us and let’s come together as a unit; that’s what I’ve been preaching and I think we can break the eight.”
The Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, emphasized, “In 2024, we will come together and give NDC a showdown.”
He expressed gratitude to his wife and the rest of his team for their unwavering support throughout his campaign.
The “showdown” man received 71,936 votes, or 37.38 percent of the total 192, 446 legitimate votes cast; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the winner, received 118,210 votes, or 61.43 percent.
The remaining contenders, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of food and agriculture, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former member of parliament for Asante Mampong, received 1,459 and 781 votes, respectively, or 0.76 and 0.41 percent of the total.
