The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe is mourning the death of two students of Ada Senior High School who drowned in the Volta River.
According to the MP, the two students and several others now rely on the Volta River for water to bath and drink after the Ghana Water Company Limited cut water supply to the area following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam. Supporting the call by the Ada MP the former Gender Children and Social Protection Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo stated that the majority of the support has been to Akosombo dam spillage victims due to media reportage, ” being a mother and a woman myself, I put my legs in my big sister’s shoes and I know exactly what she is going through, so Mr speaker I believe the Works and Housing Minister Hon, Asenso Boakye can be of help” she said.
On Monday, November 6, 2023, two students at Ada Senior High School (SHS) in the Greater Accra region perished in a tragic accident early in the morning.
The pupils’ identities, who are thought to be between 16 and 18 years old, have not yet been made public.
The deceased reportedly went swimming in the Volta River close to the school after leaving the grounds without the required authorization.
When residents saw that they were in trouble, they hurried to help them. They couldn’t save the students in time,therefore their efforts were in vain.
The government district hospital has received the deceased people’s bodies.
