Concerning the Senior High School (SHS) reopening and reporting dates, four pre-tertiary teacher unions have filed a petition with the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The unions claim that there is insufficient time between the break and the reopening to give non-teaching staff and students adequate time to rest.
Additionally, they have said that since many students who are now doing self placement will suffer, the period of time between the release of school placements for first-year students and the reporting date less than a week should be reevaluated.
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers-Ghana (CCT-Gh), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) are the unions.
“The announced date for the reporting of first year students which is slated for 4th December 2023, appears not practicable due to the fact that, the placement and the reopening dates are too close.
In addition, asking form one students to report on the 4th of December 2023, only for them to go home again on the 21″ December 2023, for Christmas break will put an undue burden on students, staff and parents” the statement added.
