Adwoa Safo, a Dome Kwabenya lawmaker who was reported to the Privileges Committee for absenteeism, would not be decided upon until later, according to Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin.

Following a discussion from all sides of the House on Thursday, July 28, 2022, the Speaker postponed making a decision.

However, Speaker Bagbin adjourned the meeting when the motion to declare the Dome Kwabenya legislator’s seat was made.

When the meeting restarted, the Speaker said he would take his time before making a decision about the legislator’s future.

The Speaker stated that he would make his decision on the topic when Parliament returned from recess.

“I have consulted the old lady, the old lady has given me an advice and I think that advice is correct. I need time to submit to this House a reasoned written ruling.

“I cannot in the haste of today give you a ruling, in the circumstances I will urge this House for us to call it a day. On return, I will deliver a written ruling.” Speaker Bagbin decalred.

The member from Dome Kwabenya did not show up before the Privileges Committee to explain her absence from Parliament for more than 15 sittings.

In a report submitted to the Plenary after its sitting, the Committee recommended that the legislator’s seat be declared vacant.
