The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Council has decided to move the January 20, 2024, date of the parliamentary primaries in constituencies where incumbent members of parliament are present to January 27, 2024.

This choice was made subsequent to the National Executive Council’s Wednesday, December 6, 2023, meeting.

At a press conference held in Accra, the Party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, made the announcement.

He also disclosed that campaigning in these constituencies will not resume until the 2024 budget has been approved.

Another development is that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, has been granted permission by the National Council to postpone the announcement of his running mate.

Twelve months prior to the general elections, the flagbearer was supposed to reveal his running mate in accordance with Article 13 of the NPP Constitution.

The Council has given Dr. Bawumia an extension, with December 7th signifying exactly 12 months until the 2024 elections. They are currently awaiting the announcement of the running mate.

The NPP expects its internal procedures to proceed without incident as it gets ready for the forthcoming parliamentary primaries and the eventual announcement of the vice-presidential candidate.
