As part of its pledge to adequately increase the staffing basis of the security agency, the government has hired 4,250 individuals into the Prisons Service during the past four years.

3,700 of the 4,250 total participants were recruits, and 550 were cadet officers.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made this announcement on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the Ghana Prisons Service’s Officer Cadet Course Intake 29 graduation event.

To safeguard the security of the country, Nana Akufo-Addo warned the prison service that their role today goes beyond their primary purpose of guaranteeing the safe custody of prisoners and their rehabilitation to include involvement in counterinsurgency operations and other national objectives.

In accordance with acceptable international standards, he urged the new officer cadets to be guided by the fact that modern correctional management does not only concentrate on punishing, condemning, and stigmatizing inmates through painful treatment methods. Rather, it aims to restore their humanity and assist in the restoration of their God-given talents.
