Joseph Osei-Owusu, also known as Joe Wise, is a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bekwai Constituency and has formally endorsed retired Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah to succeed him and urged delegates not to vote for aspirants sponsored by the opposition National Democratic Party (NDC).

Joe Wise commended the bravery of COP Mensah during a meeting with New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates. A few months ago, COP Mensah was the focus of a parliamentary investigation into a leaked tape that showed several officers and a politician discussing the removal of Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.

The MP claimed in his speech that Ralph Opoku Adusei, one of the candidates, received financial support from Togbe Afede XIV who is the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, President of Asogli Traditional Area, and former President of the National House of Chiefs, a member and financier of the NDC, in what has been called political auctioning.

The MP added that prior to this disclosure, the aforementioned candidate had asked a few coordinators and executives from his constituency to give them large sums of money in exchange for their assistance in persuading delegates to support him.

The member of parliament once more claimed that Ralph Adusei had flown the majority of the delegates to Accra and promised them GHC 50,000 each in addition to opportunities for travel, contract awards, business expansion, and other things if they voted for him.

The MP, who serves as the current Deputy Speaker of Parliament, claims that COP Mensah not only displayed bravery when he appeared before the committee, but he also provided evidence to support the various accusations made against the current IGP on the tape that was leaked.

“If COP today has announced his intention to contest our party primaries, he is no stranger” Joe Wise said.

“So, when you watched on TV how he answered the questions; the courage and the truthfulness that unfolded, a lot of people including the committee members kept calling me that Joe your man is heavy, he is courageous.

“Today, by the grace of God, we have concluded the committee’s report, those who brought the issue are afraid and do not want the report to be brought out because of his truthfulness, the testimony he gave proved that everything he said was the truth,” Joe Wise added.
