On Monday, January 15, 2024, President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana to attend the 2024 edition of the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings, which will take place from Tuesday, January 16, to Friday, January 19, at the invitation of Prof. Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum.

World leaders from academia, business, politics, and finance come together at the renowned Davos Meeting to discuss issues that impact the entire world community.

The President is scheduled to depart from Davos, Switzerland and travel to Kampala, Uganda, to take part in the Non-Aligned Movement’s 2024 Conference, with the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

The Non-Aligned Movement has its origins from what has been referred to as the first large-scale Asian–African or Afro–Asian Conference, held on 18th– 24th April, 1955. It is popularly known as the Bandung Conference (taking on the name of the City where it was held – Bandung, Indonesia). The Conference was attended by delegations from twenty-nine (29) governments, mostly from Asia – owing to the fact that most of present-day African states were still under colonial control.

President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to attend the inauguration of His Excellency Joseph Boakai as the next president of the Republic of Liberia in Monrovia, Liberia, after departing from Uganda.

Along with the President were representatives from the Foreign Ministry and the Presidency, as well as Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance.

On Monday, January 22, 2024, the President will make his way back to Ghana. In his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will assume his duties in compliance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
