The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to its general secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, will soon make public the party’s choice regarding the parliamentary primary in the Yendi constituency.
When the votes were being counted on Saturday, January 27, 2024, violence broke out in the Yendi constituency.
The current Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, was running against Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).
“Well, it (Yendi misunderstanding) has to be resolved, no matter how difficult it will be. It has to be resolved and all the reports that will come from Yendi, one from the regional party and also from the reps that we sent there, from the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police, will all influence what decision will be taken,” he said.
However, Justin Kodua Frimpong told Accra-based Asaase Radio on Monday, “It has to be resolved, and it will be resolved.”
He said that the parliamentary primaries that were held in regions with current Members of Parliament went well overall.
“From the party’s perspective, everything proceeded as planned, with no issues at all.It is our responsibility to ensure that we support the choices made by the delegates from across the nation.
The NPP General Secretary added that the party’s National Executive Committee would convene the following week to discuss the constituencies in which the elections have been suspended.
In order to strengthen the party’s unity before the general elections on December 7, Justin Kodua Frimpong made additional calls for peace within the organization.
