Chiefs in the Central Region town of Ekumfi have expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo over his remark that the people of Ekumfi have not received the attention they deserve because they did not support NPP Parliamentary candidate Joseph Ato Cudjoe in the 2020 election.

During a press conference, the traditional rulers emphasized that they are legally free to select any person they believe is qualified and suitable to serve as their member of parliament and that the President has no authority to order them around.

In an address to the media, Odeefo Akyin VIII, the Paramount Chief of Ekumfi, expressed his surprise at the President’s statement by saying “We are extremely shocked by those statements and struggle to believe the same to be true because we particularly did not believe that the President…could politically segregate the country and treat others with disdain and dislike.”

”Our calls come on the heel of the fact that the same Ato Cudjoe who is preferred by the President whose exit from Parliament has become the reason why the President has neglected the people of Ekumfi has once again lost miserably in NPP internal primaries to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general election. If the President’s own party folks will reject Hon. Ato Cudjoe, why must the chiefs and people of Ekumfi suffer for his exit in 2020 election,”  Odeefo Akyin VIII asked?

The Chief tasked President Akufo-Addo with providing precise data regarding the developmental projects completed by the former Member of Parliament, Ato Cudjoe, to demonstrate the necessity of Cudjoe’s reelection.

Odeefo Akyin VIII questioned why Ekumfi should suffer for his exit in 2020 when even the President’s own party members rejected him, citing Ato Cudjoe’s loss in the NPP Ekumfi parliamentary primary last weekend for the 2024 general election.

The chiefs begged the President to consider the unity and well-being of the community, irrespective of political affiliations, and emphasized the importance of making development projects a top priority for the benefit of all Ekumfi residents.
