Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for president in 2024, claims that his administration will not have more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers.
This comes after multiple requests from various parties, such as the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Civil Society Organizations, for the Akufo-Addo-led government to scale back its operations in order to relieve the financial strain on the nation.
Speaking to the public in Accra on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, to discuss his goals and vision for Ghana, Dr. Bawumia stated that fewer ministers will be needed to run an effective government.
He claims that his government will improve the way institutions and processes work while advancing the role of the private sector and decentralizing the budget and administration.
He claimed that by eliminating waste and guaranteeing value for money in procurement, this would increase efficiency.
“The move towards the private sector provision of many public services would create fiscal space of at least 3% of GDP.
“This represents a major paradigm shift. Additionally, an efficient system of governance will require even fewer ministers. Therefore I would have no more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers,’’ Dr Bawumia stated.
