As the head of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made it apparent that he lacked the authority to make decisions.

In its capacity as a cabinet subcommittee, he made it clear that the EMT could only offer recommendations. It could not implement them.

At the University of Professional Studies in Accra on Wednesday, February 7, Dr. Bawumia made clear that, should he be elected president, he would like to use his power of decision-making.

“I was, thankfully, appointed as Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT). As a sub-committee to the Cabinet, we do not have any decision-making powers, but I am very proud of the quality of advice we have been providing over the years to the Cabinet,” he stressed.

In addition, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate outlined several policy recommendations that would be implemented should he win the presidency in the upcoming elections in December.

Increasing the involvement of the private sector, enhancing the decentralization of the budget and administrative procedures, and streamlining the functioning of organizations and systems to boost output and cut down on waste are a few of these.

“The move towards the private sector provision of many public services would create fiscal space of at least 3% of GDP. This represents a major paradigm shift. Additionally, an efficient system of governance will require even fewer ministers. Therefore I would have no more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers,’’ he added.
