Over 5909 units of blood have been collected by MTN Ghana for the 2024 Save-a-Life campaign.
Thousands of people participated in the annual campaign, which was organized to supplement shortages at blood banks in Ghana, at specially designated bleeding centers spread across the 16 regions of the nation.
In her remarks at the opening ceremony in Accra, Adwoa Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, stated, “We have all heard, at least in the media, some of the harrowing stories of unfortunate incidents that could have easily been avoided if blood was within easy reach.”
Because of this, the MTN Ghana Foundation and MTN employees have organized this life-saving event on Valentine’s Day every year since 2011. We do this to demonstrate our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community as well as to raise awareness of the significance of voluntary blood donations.
MTN received praise for their blood donation campaign from Dr. Steve Paintsil, Medical Officer of the National Blood Service, Korle Bu. He declared, “the National Blood Service (NBS) sincerely congratulates the MTN Ghana Foundation for organizing yet another nationwide blood donation drive to help stock the nation’s blood banks. In most emergency cases, blood must be readily available for transfusion to avert untimely deaths. It is in light of the above, that the National Blood Bank wishes MTN well”.

Just 28.6% of the blood supply in the country comes from voluntary blood donations. The health of mothers is one of the main victims of blood shortage. The delivery of healthcare will continue to suffer with low blood levels. MTN has given the National Blood Bank the much-needed support it needs to help them overcome some of their obstacles through the Save-a-Life campaign.
Through the Save-a-Life campaign, MTN Ghana has collected over 31,909 units of blood by the end of this year’s blood drive.
