In observance of Independence Day, the Ministry of the Interior has formally declared that Wednesday, March 6, 2024, will be recognized as a statutory public holiday across the country.
The Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, emphasized the importance of this day in Ghanaian history and urged all Ghanaians to observe it appropriately in a statement issued on March 1, 2023.
In Ghanaians’ hearts, Independence Day—which commemorates the nation’s freedom from colonial rule—holds great significance. It acts as a reminder of the costs paid by earlier generations to protect Ghana’s independence and self-government.
As a result, everyone is welcome to participate in the many events and activities planned to mark this significant occasion. The celebration of Independence Day encourages people to embrace the spirit of unity and patriotism through flag-raising ceremonies and cultural events.
On March 6, businesses, government buildings, and educational institutions are anticipated to be closed so that people can fully enjoy the celebrations and consider Ghana’s path towards independence.
This year Koforidua Sports Stadium will host the nation’s anniversary celebration.
