Three people have been placed under custody by the Kwadaso Circuit Court in relation to the Monday attack on the fire officers at the Racecourse Market.

The accused, Solomon Anaba, 18, Lamamia Ishmael, 21, and Akongoli Adoko, 18, were taken into custody after attacking a fire department that was responding to a fire that had spread across a portion of the Racecourse Market.

The defendants are charged with assault on public servants and conspiracy to conduct violence.

Three people appeared in court on Tuesday, despite the fact that the Ghana National Fire Service had previously announced the arrest of five people in relation to the attack.

In order to give police more time to look into the case, the prosecution, led by ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei, asked the court to detain the accused.

Also, the prosecution informed the court that if the accused were given bail, they would be squatters without a fixed place of residence and may obstruct investigations.

The accused was remanded into police custody with an appearance date of March 26, 2024 by the court, presided over by His Honor Stephen Kumi.

The altercation resulted in injuries to one of the fire officers.

They started throwing stones at the firefighters and accused the Fire Fighters of being late to the scene.

The Millers’ operating area of the Racecourse Market was affected by the fire that broke out at around one in the morning on Monday.

About 180 container businesses were impacted by the fire, which also claimed the lives of traders who sold food items and materials.

The majority of the traders were unable to recover their possessions, and more than 20 milling machines were destroyed.
