Akufo-Addo launches Smart School Project, promises 1.3m tablets for SHS students

Plans to provide Smart Tablets to 1.3 million Senior High School (SHS) students across the country have been disclosed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This declaration was made on Monday during the Ghana Smart Schools Project launch in Accra.

In keeping with the government’s goal of expanding education via technology, the Ghana Smart Schools Project aims to provide students enrolled in free secondary high school programs with the necessary technical capabilities.

In addition, President Akufo-Addo said that during the next two years, some 100 smart secondary high schools will be built nationwide with the goal of improving the educational possibilities and learning environment for pupils.

“To distribute 1.3 million educational tablets to students in SHSs. That is one student, and one tablet under the Ghana Smart Schools Project. The tablets are fitted with digital content to aid research, teaching and learning.

“At the tertiary level, Ghana is pleased to provide at a discounted price tablets and laptops to students and lecturers to facilitate academic [activities]… The government continues to seek innovative ways to do STEM and the FSHS policy.”

“The next phase of FSHS policy enhancement will be propelled by digitalisation. This will allow a seamless online and offline teaching and learning experience,” he stated.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the minister of education, stated that the government is dedicated to implementing a number of initiatives to advance education throughout the nation despite the economic difficulties facing the nation.

Dr. Adutwum claims that the government would make certain that no child is left behind.

During the Ghana Smart Schools Project opening, wherein each senior high school student would receive a tablet, Dr. Adutwum declared that the government will persist in funding education.
